Summer and September
Dear friends,
News this week on what’s happening in the second half of summer, and on into the atart of autumn.
Activity is a little reduced over the summer, while people are taking well-earned holidays and so forth. Warm Welcome is on holiday until 5th September: so our Thursday morning get-togethers are limited to coffee after the 9.30am communion service. Everyone is still welcome to join us for a cuppa, but lunch won’t be resuming until September.
Sunday 11 August
Our 10am Sunday services are a bit different too. This week, we are delighted to be welcoming Joel Bruyns for baptism, along with our friends from St Catherine’s & St Paul’s. Heather will be leading the service and Jane preaching, while Nick covers for Ash’s holiday down at Broxbourne and Wormley.
Sunday 18 August
Jane will be leading a Songs of Praise, with members of the church sharing their favourite hymns and songs with us.
Sunday 25 August
We welcome Mark Escott who will be presiding at communion, in a service where Fran, one of our new lay leaders of worship is leading and Heather will be preaching. Nick will be taking the service at St Catherine’s & St Paul’s.
Sunday 1 September
We have more baptisms, with two families bringing their little ones to Christ. We rejoice in the privilege of welcoming new people into God’s family, and look forward to meeting all the many guests who join us.
7 & 8 September
Saturday 7th September brings Mark’s induction as the new vicar of St Catherine’s & St Paul’s – this service is at 7.30pm – and the following morning he will be leading the service for the first time in his new church, and we at St Cuthbert’s will be going along to join in. This will be at the later time of 10.30am. Nick will be down in Cheshunt, taking the service at St Mary’s, where Mark has been curate until recently.
Harvest
Advance notice that Harvest Festival is early this year – 10am on Sunday 22nd September, and we will have a bring and share lunch afterwards.
New River Group
Then on 29 September, we will have a joint service for the whole New River Group, at St Augustine’s Broxbourne, starting at 11am.
A special event for all families with children in their teens, or soon to be teens. Claire Banham is a professional youth worker for Hertfordshire youth work charity the267project. She is a Licenced Reader in the Church of England, and uses her love of Coaching to encourage work with young people in churches.
Come along and listen to her explaining some of the changes that happen in a teenage brain, learn why your children seem to change into new people as the get older, and help us to help you – tell us what we can do in our churches to support families and young people.
