The Merry Month of May

The Merry Month of May

May at St Cuthbert’s: Sun, Celebration, and Big Conversations!

Is it just us, or are the best people really born in May? Huge birthday shouts to Dave Lee, Doreen, and Tamara! 🎂

Spring has officially sprung, and the calendar at St Cuthbert’s is absolutely jam-packed. Whether you’re looking to dive deeper into your faith, find a fun afternoon for the kids, or just enjoy a picnic with friends, we’ve got you covered. Here’s your guide to everything happening this month:

🗣️ Get Talking: “Everyday Conversations about Jesus”

Thursday Evenings | The Vicarage

Ever felt a bit tongue-tied when talking about your faith? Our curate, Heather Ross, is preaching tomorrow to kick off her brand-new, four-week course. It’s designed to build your confidence in sharing your journey with friends and neighbours in a natural, easy way.

Pro Tip: Put your new skills to the test! Heather is hosting another Pet Service this June. It’s the perfect, low-pressure event to invite your animal-loving mates (and their furry friends!) to.

🎨 Family Fun: Messy Church

Friday, May 8th | 4:00 PM

Calling all primary schoolers and parents! Our monthly Messy Church is back. Expect an afternoon of:

  • Creative crafts and activities.
  • Singing and a short talk from Heather.
  • A delicious shared tea to wrap things up.

It’s fun, friendly, and free (though donations for food are always appreciated!).

🕊️ A Sunday Celebration

Sunday, May 10th | 10:00 AM

Join us for a very special All-Age Worship as we welcome two families for the baptism of their children! This isn’t your average formal service; expect lively music, interactive talks, and a chance for our younger members to give a “kids-style” welcome to our newest church members.

✨ Rest & Recharge: Sunday Night Spirit

Sunday, May 10th | 6:30 PM

If your morning was full of energy and baptismal buzz, why not end the day by filling your own cup? Join us at 6:30 PM for an evening dedicated to extended worship and waiting on God. There’s no rush and no tight agenda—just a beautiful space to lean into His presence and receive from the Holy Spirit. Whether you’re feeling weary or come ready for heartfelt worship, this is a chance to really engage and be refreshed by the Spirit’s power.

🧺 Business & Brioche: The Annual Meeting

Sunday, May 17th | 11:30 AM (Post-Service)

It’s time for our Annual Church Meeting, but we’re making a party of it! Once the official bits are wrapped up, we’re heading to the park for a community picnic.

  • Sun shining? We’ll be on the grass.
  • Typical British rain? We’ll retreat to the hall. Bring your favourite snacks and let’s enjoy some quality time together.

🤔 Got Questions? “Searching 4 Faith”

Starts May 21st | Following ‘Warm Welcome’

Nick is launching a course for the curious, the sceptics, and the seekers. It’s called Searching 4 Faith.

  • The Plan: Come for lunch at 12:00 PM, stay for the discussion.
  • The Vibe: No question is off-limits. Nick promises an open space to ask anything you’ve ever wondered about. He might not have every answer, but he’ll certainly explore them with you!

⛪ On the Road: Joint Service

Sunday, May 31st | 10:30 AM

To wrap up the month, we’re heading into town! We’re joining our friends in the New River Group for a joint service at St Catherine’s & St Paul’s (right opposite Morrisons in Hoddesdon). Please note the slightly later start time of 10:30 AM.

We can’t wait to see you there! Which event are you marking in your diary first?
