Sermon Index

In 2026 we are inviting everyone to read the bible in a year with Nicky & Pippa Gumbel. Nicky is the creator of the Alpha course, and his guide to the Bible in a year can be accessed here. You can get the app on your phone, or read the daily passages online, along with Nicky’s commentary.

We are beginning the year with sermons that go alongside the passages we are reading each day.

Meanwhile on Thursdays, we began the year with a series of sermons on the first half of 1 John. We followed that with a series in the early chapters of Proverbs.

In 2025, we had a series on prayer entitled Sacred Pathways, a series from Acts about Peter and Paul going out with the message of Christ, and a series on the big story of the Bible.

On Thursday mornings, we had a series looking at the Psalms, a short series from Romans, and a series in the book of Daniel.

Sacred Pathways Series

As part of our year long focus on prayer, we preached a series of sermons based on Gary Thomas’s book, Sacred Pathways. We wanted to show that there are many different ways of prayer, and that we should not think that there is one right way to pray, and it can be refreshing to find new ways of approaching God.

Acts Series

This series is inspired by Heather Ross, our curate and distinctive deacon. Heather’s vocation is not to sit in church waiting for people to walk through the door, it is to go out and meet people where they are. So we looked at examples from the book of Acts that show people doing just that – going out with the message of love and hope that Jesus brings.

Psalms Series

On Thursday mornings, we are picking out some of the Psalms to concentrate on, while also considering the shape of the Psalter as a whole – the entire collection of Psalms is a carefully crafted whole, and this is something we never usually consider.

Healing Service

As part of our new fortnightly evening services, Nick preached at a healing service on 20 July. His passage was Mark 9:14-27 – a healing story fraught with difficulty.

Philemon

Towards the end of the New Testament, there is a little letter from Paul. Not a letter to the whole church, but a personal letter to one individual in the church at Colossae. This is the story of how the letter came to be written. It is told as a story, based on the best scholarship we have, but elements of it are just that – a story.

Prayer Series

Continuing our year long focus on prayer, we have a short series about praying for people and siutations – what we call intercessory prayer

Romans Series

On Thursdays we spent 4 weeks looking at Paul’s letter to the Romans. The letter has a 4-part shape, so we looked at a passage from each of the 4 parts.

Daniel Series

In this series, we examine the book of Daniel. Did you know it’s written in two languages? We aim to unlock the book’s beautiful structure, and look more closely at passages from the first seven chapters.

A Bible Journey

Alonongside our reading of the Bible in a year in 2026, we have sermons that dip into the stories we are reading, to offer context and insight, and to try to point out some interesting landmarks on the way to watch out for.
