Nick spent Thursday mornings in February and March workling though extracts of the first 8 chapters of the book of Proverbs.
In this section, we hear two voices, a father offering advice to his son, and a mysterious woman who seems to be the personification of Wisdom.
We alternate between these two voices, and listen to some down to earth practical advice on how to live.
5 February 2026: Proverbs 1:1-9
These early chapters of Proverbs extol a virtue, or a concept, or an attribute, called Wisdom. It’s useful for making life decisions: Knowledge can tell you that a tomato is a fruit, wisdom tells you not to put a tomato in a fruit salad! True wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord. But what does that mean? Listen, and find out!
12 February 2026: Proverbs 1:10-19
Today we hear the first speech from the father to his son – which can be summed up as a great big “Don’t!”
19 February 2026: Proverbs 1:20-33
Today we hear from Lady Wisdom for the first time. She sets out her wares with quite a fanfare. We should listen to her, if we want life to go well. Ignore her, and things will go from bad to worse.
26 February 2026: Proverbs 3:12-12
Is Proverbs just a book of quick advice? Is it the Biblical equivalent of Lifehackr? The royal father wants us to beleive that it’s more than that – if we trust in the Lord, and not on our own understanding – that’s the way to make your paths straight.
