Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals

Baptism at St Cuthbert’s
We welcome all who wish to be baptised at St Cuthbert’s whether as an adult or child.

What is Baptism? (or Christening – which is a different name for the same service)

  • Baptism is a sign of belonging to God’s family.
  • Baptism marks the beginning of a journey of faith.
  • Baptism is a sign that you want to bring up your child as a Christian.

As part of your exploration of baptism, we encourage you to come along to one of the opportunities for worship at St Cuthbert’s.
Every Sunday morning at 10.45 am: An informal contemporary service with Special Branch, our group for under 11’s.
Messy Church: Every month on the second Friday from 4.00 pm – 5.30 pm

Want to know more? Contact Nick our vicar, and he will be glad to talk to you.

Getting married in church
We have got all sorts of ways to help you in your planning, and would love to share the journey with you.
The first step is probably to come and meet us – have a look inside the church if you haven’t already done so, and have the chance to ask your questions.
If you go to the contact page, you can either email us, or give us an old fashioned ring on the telephone.
You should also check to see if you already have what’s called a Qualifying Connection – which you need to get married in church.
For most people it’s very straightforward – you live (either now or in the past) in the Church’s catchment area (called a parish), or were baptised here. There are other qualifying connections as well, but it’s probably simpler if you just get in touch.

Living with Loss Funerals

When a loved one has died, support from your parish church is there for you if you wish it. We believe that a Christian funeral can bring you support, comfort and hope. Whether you go to church or not, we are here for you. Our clergy are available to take a funeral service – in church, or at the crematorium or cemetery chapel.

Some families choose to have a service in church, followed by burial or cremation, others prefer to have the whole service at the crematorium, or cemetery chapel. Whatever you prefer, we are here to assist you in whatever way we can through spending time with you, helping to prepare the funeral service, offering ongoing support where that is needed.

We offer ongoing support for those who request it, including a bereavement support group. We hold a memorial service once a year in the autumn when we remember by name those who have died in the last 12 months.
With our prayers for you at this time.
