Romans Part 1, 16 October 2025
We looked at Romans 3:21-31, as part of Paul’s first big point: the righteousness of God. The great gift that Christians can enjoy is the free gift of being right with God, and all we need to do to receive it is to put our faith in Jesus.
Romans Part 2, 23 October 2025
Next, Paul describes a new kind of humanity, brought to birth by the Holy Spirit, able to overcome the dragging influence of what he calls “the flesh” that holds us back. it’s a humanity of all backgrounds and creeds, united by their faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans Part 3, 30 October 2025
What was the point, then, of all God’s dealings with his chosen people the Jews, if he’s actually now letting anyone in to his new humanity? Was it a waste of time? Surely not! In this part of the letter, Paul has something to say to disappointed Jews who might be feeling that God has led them up the garden path.
Romans Part 4, 6 November 2025
Paul brings his letter to its conclusion with an appeal to the Christians in Rome to work for unity. He wants then to realise that they don’t all need to be the same, that their differences are a good thing – part of the glorious diversity of God’s new family. This will be hard work, but good practice: if they can love, serve and forgive each other, then they are well placed to do the same for the wider world.
